Lusty Lady:

EMPLOYEES AT THE LUSTY LADY HAVE UNIONIZED! On Friday, August 30 employees voted 57 to 15 in favor of the union; S.E.I.U., Local 790 will now represent the workers at the Lusty Lady Theater. Negotiations with management will begin within the next few weeks.

Congratulations to the first "Exotic Dancer's Union" of S.E.I.U. as well as everyone else who was involved in this precedent setting event.

A HEARING WILL TAKE PLACE on September 11, 1996 at the State of California Labor Commission regarding a wage and hour claim by a former employee. This case is similar to the case involving Bijou Group, Inc. (Market Street Cinema, Century) where it was established that all house dancers are employees, not independent contractors, and are entitled to back wages, and return of all stage fees.

All of the original plaintiffs in the class action suit against management have been "fired"--there are approximately 418 former and present workers who have opted in to the class action suit, 30 of whom are still working at the theater. Management has been aggressively attempting to obtain a copy of the list, and the attorneys for the plaintiffs fear possible retaliation against those women who are still working and involved in the case.
