Sex Worker and Prostitution Issues: Student Homepage
STUDENT FAQ
"I am in a debate class (or writing a paper) about the
legalization
(or decriminalization) of prostitution or trafficking vs sex work. How can
I get information?"
- First go to a report
from The San Francisco Task Force on Prostitution, and read the Executive
Summary and Summary of Recommendations (and you can skim or read the
entire report.)
What people in the US think of when they think of prostitution, is
on the street, however this is because street prostitution is the
most visible. Street-based sex workers receive the brunt of discrimination,
and are also more frequently arrested. The majority of prostitution
in the US and most places is not street prostitution-- most
prostitution is hidden, indoors.
- Next, refer to the a piece
about the definitions and meanings of decriminalization or legalization
of prostitution
- This site has arguments on both sides. http://prostitution.procon.org/
- BAYSWAN is currently updating statistics. Older
the statistics are here and and can apply
some to your argument.
- Perhaps there is room in your report for an example
of model legislation.
This would be quite helpful as it helps people envision a decriminalized
system.
Interviews for Reports on Prostitution: Carol
Leigh AKA Scarlot Harlot
We are available if you need to interview someone
for your project, because of the abundance of requests, we are not
able to provide that service for free. However, if you donate $50.00
using our PayPal account, we will schedule an audio interview on
the phone or Skype audio for you with Ms. Leigh. For $100.00 we
also offer video interviews on Skype or your preferred
platform
Write us at penet@bayswan.org
to make sure we can schedule this according to your needs before you
make your purchase. When we agree in a time, then visit our interview
page. After we receive notice of payment (from Paypal) we will arrange
the interview ASAP, often on the same day if we had agreed on that
through email.
If you would like additional materials we can arrange that in conjunction
with the call. Otherwise, there's a lot of information online, and
I will be happy to answer questions.
Voila!!!
Let me know how it goes...
