of

DANCES SACRED & PROFANE

Midnight, Friday May 6th at the Roxie Cinema, 3117 16th Street, San Francisco

This highly acclaimed film features Fakir Musafar (who will appear in
person at the Roxie with his partner Cleo Dubois). DANCES SACRED &
PROFANE introduced Fakir Musafar, Father of the Modern Primitive
Movement, to the world. Fakir performs--for real--the first ever
filming of the Sun Dance ceremony which Richard Harris immortalized
in the film "A Man Called Horse". In this extraordinary footage Fakir
hangs suspended from flesh hooks that have been pierced through his
breasts. It also features Annie Sprinkle, Veronica Vera, Charles
Gatewood and Spider Web as well as scenes from Mardi Gras and the
historic Belle Du Jour Club in New York

.
"Dances Sacred & Profane highlights the work of photographer Charles
Gatewood in documenting some of the seminal figures and influences in
the modern sex scene and body modification culture. Gatewood is
followed to Amsterdam for an early tattoo convention, as well as
Wyoming with Jim Ward and Fakir Musafar for the now legendary Sun
Dance. Assorted bodymod personalities pop in from time to time, but
it's the Sun Dance scenes that have earned a reputation for this
film. Aside from its obvious anthropological value, this film has
served as an inspiration to many in the body modification community
and has invaluable historical significance."
