San Francisco's 4th Sex Worker
Film and Arts Festival  presents

Wang Fang Ping

Taiwan’s Legal Prostitutes

Although the political climate that favors corporations has nearly destroyed the US labor movement, in Taiwan and other Asian municipalities the vibrant labor movement contributes to the sex worker rights movement. Our international guest this year is union activist  Wang Fang Ping, former Taipei City Council candidate and Secretary General of COSWAS,Taiwan's Coalition of Sex Workers and Supporters.

The Sex Worker Festival has screened work from COSWAS in former festivals and we are proud to screen "Our Life Saving Vinegar" about an economic development project for Taipei's former legal prostitutes. Fang Ping will present clips from some of the actions of COSWAS and speak about her experiences with this movement.

About The Movie, Our Life Saving Vinegar, Fang Ping brings from Taipei
Many people may at some point of their middle-age life need to change their careers Perhaps the difference lies in when and how they would do it. It could be a great opportunity for some but for others, it could be a painful choice which they have to make due to economic pressures. The subject of this film is a group of ex-licensed prostitutes living in Taipei City, Taiwan today. They belong to a workers support and advocacy organization, known as COSWAS - Collective of Sex Workers and Supporters. Their work as prostitutes is illegal. So under very difficult and harsh circumstances and with such little resources, how can this group of courageous women make use of their skills and knowledge to create a second chance for themselves? (25 min.-2005)
Producer: Collective of Sex Worker and Supporters (COSWAS); Director: Zita Jeng
